The Euro came into the real world on January 1, 1999. The Maastricht Treaty led to the creation of the euro.

However, only nineteen (19) countries out of twenty eight (28) are in Eurozone which is called Euro Area. This mean, that they use euro currency as common currency and sole legal tender.
